Usage Data is collected automatically when using the Service.
Usage Data may include information such as Your Device's Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that You visit, the time and date of Your visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.

The Company will retain Your Personal Data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. We will retain and use Your Personal Data to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations (for example, if we are required to retain your data to comply with applicable laws), resolve disputes, and enforce our legal agreements and policies.
The Company will also retain Usage Data for internal analysis purposes. Usage Data is generally retained for a shorter period of time, except when this data is used to strengthen the security or to improve the functionality of Our Service, or We are legally obligated to retain this data for longer time periods.
ClassStart does not keep files forever.
When a course has been closed and has had no activity for five years, all files in that course are permanently deleted. These are:
Course records are kept. Only the files are removed. Enrolments, grades, submission timestamps and attendance history all remain. Where a file used to be, the page shows a notice explaining that it was removed under this policy, so it is not mistaken for a fault.
Courses still in use are never affected. The five years restart on any activity in the course, and re-opening a closed course removes it from this policy immediately.
Teachers are warned in advance on their dashboard, which lists the courses approaching the deadline and the date their files will be removed. Teachers can open the class and download what they want to keep, or re-open the course.
Courses reaching five years from now on are warned 90 days in advance. Courses that had already passed five years before this policy took effect have been warned since 11 September 2026, and deletion for them begins 1 October 2026.
Five years is a minimum. Deletion runs on a schedule, so some files may remain for a period after five years have passed, but nothing is deleted before then.
Your information, including Personal Data, is processed at the Company's operating offices and in any other places where the parties involved in the processing are located. It means that this information may be transferred to — and maintained on — computers located outside of Your state, province, country or other governmental jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ than those from Your jurisdiction.
Your consent to this Privacy Policy followed by Your submission of such information represents Your agreement to that transfer.
The Company will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that Your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy and no transfer of Your Personal Data will take place to an organization or a country unless there are adequate controls in place including the security of Your data and other personal information.
You may request the Company to delete Your Personal Data (User Data Deletion) by sending an email indicating your request to [email protected]. The Company will remove Your Personal Data from the Service within 7 business days.
This section describes how ClassStart accesses, uses, stores and discloses the data We receive from Google when You choose to sign in with Your Google Account. It applies in addition to the rest of this Privacy Policy. Signing in with Google is one of three ways to use the Service; You may sign in with Facebook or with Microsoft instead.
ClassStart requests only Google's two basic sign-in permissions, email and
profile. From them We receive, and keep in Your ClassStart account:
That is the whole of it. We do not request or receive Your Google password, Your Gmail messages, Your Google Drive files, Your contacts, Your calendar, or data from any other Google service.
We do not copy Your profile picture onto Our servers: We keep only the web address of the picture and display it from Google. We do not keep Your Google access token or Your refresh token, so once You have signed in, ClassStart holds no credential that would let it reach Your Google Account again.
We use it only to provide the Service to You:
We do not use Google user data for advertising, We do not use it to build a profile of You, and We do not use it to train machine learning models.
We do not sell, rent or trade Google user data, and We do not transfer it to any third party for that third party's own purposes.
Your name and Your picture are visible to the other members of the courses You join, because that is what the Service is for. Beyond that, Google user data is disclosed only as set out in Disclosure of Your Personal Data below, and to the service providers who host and operate the Service on Our behalf and on Our instructions.
Google user data reaches Us over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) and is available only to those of Our staff who need it to operate the Service. The limits described in Security of Your Personal Data below apply to it exactly as they apply to the rest of Your Personal Data.
We keep it for as long as Your ClassStart account exists.
You may ask Us to delete it at any time by emailing [email protected], as described in Deletion of Your Personal Data (User Data Deletion) above. We will remove Your Personal Data from the Service within 7 business days.
You may also withdraw ClassStart's access to Your Google Account at any time from the Third-party apps & services page of Your Google Account. Withdrawing access stops You signing in with Google; on its own it does not delete the data already held in Your ClassStart account, for which You should use the deletion request above.
If the Company is involved in a merger, acquisition or asset sale, Your Personal Data may be transferred. We will provide notice before Your Personal Data is transferred and becomes subject to a different Privacy Policy.
Under certain circumstances, the Company may be required to disclose Your Personal Data if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g. a court or a government agency).
